About Me

Artist Statement, Education Philosophy, Teaching Experience, and Qualifications

Artist Statement

For the past 15 years my work has been a broad spectrum of places, objects, cultural features, and iconography. Famous buildings, significant places, food, animals, symbols, and people from around the world are all featured subjects in my body of work, with styles of technique varying from simplified to detailed. I look to artists from all around the world and art history for inspiration, including children's book illustrators and commercial artists. I seek to capture the feeling of my subjects in a way that reflects the essence of their simplicity or the magic within them. I draw influence from the experience of discovery through observation, and the human tendencies of curiosity. In my work, I aim to present to the viewer a new way of experiencing the familiar.

Education Philosophy

My education philosophy is rooted in the human need for self-expression and discovery. Each student is creative and intelligent in their own unique ways, and as an educator it is my duty to foster these qualities in each student by guiding them through a explorative journey of world art history, art mediums, and techniques. My teaching style encourages students to have fun, place their identity and ideas into their works, and to allow them to express themselves through visual art. My goal for each student is to build up their creativity, artistry, and knowledge of techniques and artistic tools in a supportive and encouraging environment.
